    Description

A mind-blowing miniature creamware cream jug of Whieldon type with typical streaked manganese and yellow glazes; probably Thomas Whieldon, Fenton Vivian, Staffordshire Potteries, England. circa 1750 - 1760.
As I remember the records of Thomas Whieldon's pottery at Fenton Vivian allude to the manufacture of children’s wares. These seem to be based on Chinese tortoishell glazes like the one featured in our photographs. The second half of the eighteenth century saw the Staffordshire pottery manufacturers take an increasing interest in manufacturing for the children's market and charming examples like this were the result. The jug has an earthenware body glazed with these attractive streaked glazes.
The jug is tiny, a miracle of the thrower's art which was maybe done by a woman. It measures approximately 1 15/16 inches tall and about 1 1/2 inches wide. It is a miracle that something as fragile as this has survived for so many years. There is no significant damage, no chips, cracks or restoration (see all 12 photos). If you are interested in miniature / children's wares you will definitely want this amazing little jug. Thanks for bidding and good luck!
