FRESH FROM AN OLD COLLECTION.
AN EXTREMELY FINE LATE 18TH CENTURY RHODE ISLAND WINDSOR FAN BACK SIDE CHAIR WITH 7 BULBOUS TURNED SPINDLES, TWO FINELY TURNED SUPPORTS AND THE BEST HAND HEWN SHAPED FAN BACK CREST, A DEEP WELL CARVED HAND HEWN PINE SEAT WITH THE ABSOLUTE BEST DEEP CUT TURNED LEGS WITH THE DISTINCTIVE RHODE ISLAND SHAPED FEET IN AN OLD LATE 19TH CENTURY BLACK PAINT OVER THE ORIGINAL BLACK.
Rhode Island, Circa 1780-1800 in maple, hickory and ash.
THIS IS AN EXTREMELY FINE AND BOLD EXAMPLE FROM RHODE ISLAND.
This great chair is a great example of an Rhode Island Windsor from the latter part of the 18th century. The uniquely turned legs are the very best with FULL HEIGHT and exhibit the distinctive Tapering feet that is found only in Rhode Island pieces. The BOLDLY shaped saddle seat and shaped side stretchers are also classic Rhode Island features.
The carved and stem bent crest is of hickory and the highly Bulbous turned spindles are of maple and ash.
THE SURFACE IS AN OLD VARNISHED OVER 19TH CENTURY BLACK PAINT. IT IS OVER THE ORIGINAL BLACK BELOW.
THE CHAIR IS IN FANTASTIC CONDITION. THERE ARE NO REPAIRS OR RESTORATIONS.
The only loss is a couple of very tight lines in the seat from shrinkage. These are not cracks and don't go through, just surface lines visible in the grain.
