It still has miraculously soft, supple leather & the sturdy cord leather stitching is nearly entirely intact. There's but a sm pinhole found on the underside of the stuffed collar, which would've come into contact w/the animal itself. The front side or show side of the collar has rich, chocolate & sepia brown color that's alligatored along its sides, showing the leather may have been repeatedly treated w/some kind of wax or moisturizing agent over the yrs, perhaps even some kind of tar or pine pitch. This side is harder & stiffer than the soft, slightly worn underside, where the leather is somewhat scuffed. The apex of the harness shows very capable leather craftsmanship & the hand-sewn leather is expertly realized. The int stuffing is still soft & malleable. Outstanding American craftsmanship. Great.
