antique,
New England
primitive, monumental, large,
15" in diameter,
reddish-burnt umber glazed redware ceramic charger.
Circa 1820 to 1845,
this very scarce and quite large redware ceramic charger is now from between
175 to 200 years old.
It doesn't have any visible fractures or unsightly edge flea-bites, compromising its structural integrity. It does however demonstrate evidence of being previously used, with several glaze flakes found on its interior basin, as well as some minor scuffs and shallow surface abrasions, caused from being handled and used over the years. It was clearly used but also as clearly, never abused or mistreated. The damage is commensurate with and consistent with its veritable antique pedigree. At
15" in diameter,
this beautiful antique redware charger would serve as a terrific table centerpiece upon which to display seasonal fruits or colorful autumnal vegetables, such as squash, gourds and miniature pumpkins. Honest and nearly as old as dirt. Found in the
Connecticut River Valley
of
western Massachusetts,
quite near the early
New England
village of
Deerfield,
close to the western bank of the mighty
Connecticut River.
