RARE 1790 era log cabin window frame & shutters original paint forged hardware

PLEASE NOTE ............ this item is selling AS-IS ....... i will describe it to the best of my ability , but nearly every item i sell is from 50 to 100 years old and will show some sign of wear

THIS LISTING ........ this is simply an amazing old barn find ...... right out of a local estate auction , i have this one of a kind piece of folk art ........
. somehow this survived for 2 centuries ( can not date it exactly ) and with a ton of old original blue paint still intact
. as you can see , the 4 shutters are of very thick single wood panes ........ each one was crudely cut by hand ... hand hewn wood ..... ancient boards / doors .... each one has incredible ancient hardware ...... not hinges , but hooks that all.owed the shutters to be removed from protecting the valuable glass behind them ..... then when the weather appeared to storm ...... it was quite easy to put the shutters back into the eye hooks and close them shut
the hardware is all complete and original hand forged iron all hooks ....... eye holes ...... closures and latches are original
i took about 40 pictures ..... but ebay limits me to a total of only a dozen..... ( stupid rule ) ...... sigh
someone long ago evidently replaced the glass with a nice mirror so it could be saved and used in the new house ...... it is heavy and covered on the back with wood as well
all of the hardware was hammered through the wood and the part that remained on the back was hammered down ...... i only have one photo of one latch back ...... but they are all wonderful ...... the frame has old hand made nails in it as well .......
this had to be saved for a reason ...... maybe grandma's old log cabin ...... some sentimental reason and no one could tell me a story other than it had ALWAYS been in the barn ....... lol
. the old blue paint is strong for the age , but then the panels / shutters were often kept inside so the window could be enjoyed ...... all hand crafted , it is a wonderful thing for any primitive buyer to want ....... and if i do not sell it to someone , i can enjoy it in the meantime
it measures about ..... 23 inches wide ..... 46 3/4 inches high ..... 2 1/4 inches thick ...... with each door about 20 3/4 inches tall and ..... between 8 1/2 & 9 inches wide ....... the size varies and the top doors will not interchange with the bottom two ....... all hand crafted , but kinda crude as well
it is far too heavy to ship ...... you must come to fairmount indiana to pick it up .... or send someone ..... or send a wood crate as i simply do not want to ship it ...... too easy to damage and not replaceable ........
oh yes ...... note the original wooden teardrop shaped wood latch in the middle ...... it will lock the top or bottom , but not both at once ....... it really is wonderful and a rare piece of American architectural history ...... a show piece for any home

Usually the post office and sometimes UPS ......and sometimes the eBay shipping calculator is way off the mark ............. please ask if the shipping seems too much ....... often we can send it slower and save you some money ..... , it simply depends on where you live ...... items going overseas naturally cost more to ship than those that stay in the states
