    WE JUST PURCHASED A SMALL AMOUNT OF EARLY 17TH AND 18TH CENTURY PIECES THAT WERE IN THE COLLECTIONS AT HISTORIC WILLIAMSBURG.
    ALL THESE PIECES ARE WONDERFUL AND RARE EARLY FORMS AND many STILL HAVE THEIR ORIGINAL WILLIAMSBURG MARKINGS.
    Many of these pieces were purchased in the 1970's from an early auction at Sotheby's in New York City.
    At that time, Colonial Williamsburg release many of its New England pieces to auction and concentrated more on regional examples from the area around Williamsburg.
    THIS GREAT CHAIRS STILL HAS AN OLD "CW 61-41" painted mark as well as an old 1983 collector's sticker.
    AN EXTREMELY RARE AND IMPORTANT AMERICAN 17TH CENTURY MASSACHUSETTS BAY COLONY CARVER SIDE CHAIR IN OLD GRUNGY SURFACE AND WONDERFUL CONDITION.
    THIS GREAT CHAIR HAS BEEN IN AN OLD CONNECTICUT COLLECTION SINCE THE 1983.
    THIS IS ONE OF THE EARLIEST AND BOLDEST CARVER SIDE-CHAIRS I HAVE SEEN IN 40 YEARS AND IT IS IN FANTASTIC CONDITION.
    A RARE CHANCE TO BUY A MUSEUM QUALITY AMERICAN PILGRIM PERIOD CARVER CHAIR WITH A WONDERFUL MUSEUM PROVENANCE.
    AN EXTREMELY RARE AND IMPORTANT EARLY 17TH CENTURY AMERICAN PILGRIM PERIOD TURNED SPINDLE BACK "CARVER" TYPE SIDE CHAIR IN NATIVE AMERICAN MAPLE WITH THREE COMPLEX TURNED SPINDLES, A TURNED TOP CREST RAIL AND FULLY INTACT DISC AND NIPPLE SHAPED FINIALS, ALL IN A WONDERFUL GRUNGY OLD SURFACE AND PATINA WITH A 19TH CENTURY RUSH SEAT.
    PROBABLY ESSEX COUNTY, MA OR BOSTON, Circa 1650-1670.
    THIS IS A FIRST PERIOD CARVER SIDE-CHAIR OF GREAT IMPORTANCE.
    IF YOU HAVE EVER WANTED A 17TH CENTURY AMERICAN CARVER SIDE CHAIR DON'T MISS OUT ON THIS EXAMPLE. IT IS ABOUT THE BEST YOU WILL EVER FIND ON THE MARKET AND EQUAL TO THE BEST FOUND IN ANY MUSEUM.
    IT HAS VERY BOLD TURNED POSTS AND IS ONE OF THE BEST PRESERVED EXAMPLES IN EXISTENCE.
    A great early design, it has THREE BOLD turned spindles in the back with a turned crest rail top.
    The shaped finials are completely original.
    The stretchers are all original as are the feet.
    THE FEET ARE FULL HEIGHT, INTACT AND ALL ORIGINAL
    .
    THE SURFACE IS AN OLD GRUNGY COLOR AND PATINA WITH TRACES OF AN OLD BLACK PAINT.
    CARVER SIDE CHAIRS ARE EXTREMELY RARE AND USUALLY WHEN THEY COME ON THE MARKET THEY HAVE MANY REPAIRS AND RESTORATIONS.
    THE ONLY LOSS TO THIS CHAIR IS SOME LOSSES TO THE TOPS OF THE FRONT POSTS WERE THE SIDE SEAT RAILS ENTER FROM 350 YEARS OF USE and THE REPLACED RUSH SEAT.
    THERE IS A SIMILAR BUT LESS IMPRESSIVE PAIR ILLUSTRATED IN WALLACE NUTTING'S "FURNITURE TREASURY", PLATE 1818-1819. NUTTING DATES THEM TO 1650-1670.
    I sold this pair of chiars illustrated in Nutting's a few years ago.  They were similar but nothing compared to this chair.
    This great chair stands 37" TALL. The seat height is a full 16".
