Description
Description:An antique horn cider or ale cup from the Scottish Highlands. I found it on the Black Isle. It dates to the Victorian Era, 1830 - 1880. It is all opaque horn in blonde and tan.
This is a large specimen, 4 1//2" tall. The bottom is lathe-turned, set-in horn with a nice little bull's-eye pattern. It has a rough, dry finish, only lightly polished.
Condition:
It is primitive, and hasn't been cleaned. It does not leak, but you'd really have to clean it well if you plan to drink from it, as who know what stable it was stored in for such a long time! (Do not put in the dishwasher or in boiling water. It will destroy it.) Photo # 3 shows an old horizontal crack in the outer lamina that does not go through to the inner layer.
A lovely piece of history you will be proud to display.
