Description
My three girls don't seem to have an interest in the antiques business so my five year old grandson (who is interested in antiques and dinosaurs) will be working with me for the next few weeks on a trial basis. He is trying to raise money to buy new dinosaurs. I made a deal with him that he could pick and list one item per week and that he could keep half of the money and the other half he will donate to a local school system. I told him that he will have to pick out the item, describe it and help with the photographs and listing.
I will list his description first and then clarify anything he might have missed or forgotten if needed in the description.
Also, the pictures we use, (other than the ones with Jacob in them) are all taken by Jacob.
This week I am selling a really old GLASS MEDICINE BOTTLE.
It is made out of clear glass and it has a stopper on the top. The stopper keeps the medicine from spilling, it is kind of like a cork on a wine bottle. I don't drink wine because I am a kid, but my mom drinks wine and Pappy too.
The bottle has a label on the front and instead of being paper, the label is glass too. It looks like it is glued on.
The label has the words. "TR GALLAE" written on it. Pappy told me that this word was Latin. Pappy then made me look up the word on his computer to see what it means.
I found that it is a very old medicine that was made out of "Nutgall" and it was made into an ointment. I learned that an ointment was rubbed onto your body to help it.
I then learned that this medicine was used to treat "hemorrhoids" in the old days. Pappy told me to ask my Mom or Mimi what hemorrhoids are.
The bottle is in very good condition. The bottom has a very sharp center and Pappy told me that is call ed a broken pontil, (that is a silly word). And that is was hand blown.
It is very old, I guessed it was about 200 years old and Pappy told me that I was right.
It is 6 1/2" tall and the bottom is 2 1/2"
