A VERY RARE 19TH CENTURY ENFIELD, CT SHAKER COMMUNITY TIN "OVER-SIZED" ADJUSTABLE CHAMBER-STICK CANDLE HOLDER WITH A DEEP SAUCER BASE WITH ITS ORIGINAL APPLIED RING HANDLE, AN ADJUSTABLE SHAFT WITH ITS ORIGINAL LIFT TAB AND A VERY UNUSUAL WIDE TOP BRIM.
FANTASTIC ORIGINAL CONDITION AND STILL IN ITS OLD AND ORIGINAL SURFACE.
ENFIELD, CT COMMUNITY, CIRCA 1840-1860.
A FANTASTIC PIECE OF EARLY SHAKER TIN LIGHTING DIRECTLY FORM THE NORTH FAMILY OF ENFIELD, CT SHAKERS.
ALTHOUGH THE ENFIELD, CT SHAKER COMMUNITY WAS CLOSED IN 1917, THE NORTH FAMILY DISBANDED IN 1913.
A FEW OF THE REMAINING SHAKERS FROM THE NORTH FAMILY DID NOT MOVE TO THE SHAKER COMMUNITY IN MAINE BUT RATHER ASSIMILATED BACK INTO THEIR NON-SHAKER FAMILIES IN ENFIELD.
THIS EARLY TIN LAMP WAS ONE OF THOSE PIECES THEY BROUGHT OUT WITH THEM WHEN THEY LEFT.
I HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO PURCHASE NEALY ALL OF THE ITEMS THAT THEY BROUGHT OUT.
MANY OF THESE PIECES WERE DISPLAYED OVER THE YEARS AT ANTIQUE FAIRS AND HISTORICAL SOCIETY EXHIBITS.
THESE SIMPLE TIN CANDLE HOLDERS WERE USED THROUGHOUT THE COMMUNITY.
THE LARGE SIZE OF THIS EXAMPLE HOWEVER SUGGESTS IT WAS MADE FOR A COMMUNITY BUILDING OR FOR USE IN THE STORE OR WORK SHOP.
NO REPAIRS OR LOSSES.
There is an added place on one side for a snuffer, which is missing.
9" across and 4 3/4" tall.
