    Description

I'm offering these two wooden molds from my personal collection of early maple sugar molds with heart designs.
The mold shown on the left has three hearts of graduated sizes, carved into a single hardwood board.  Each heart has scalloped ridges carved into the outside edge of the heart design.  The mold measures 15" x 4 1/2" x 1 1/4" and it is in very good condition.  The wood exhibits a very nice patina and there are clear signs showing how this piece of wood was hand hewn and each heart carved by hand.  This mold was purchased in the United States from an antiques dealer from New  Brunswick, Canada.
The mold on the right is made from two long pieces of wood, a separate swinging wood back piece and two hand-carved wooden pegs to hold the sides together.  The inside of each half of the carved heart has checkerboard and cross designs.  There are holes in both sides which the pegs slide through to keep the two halves together while molding the maple sugar, and to make for easier removal of the hard sugar.  The mold measures 16 5/8" x 5 3/4" x 2", has an old brass eye screw on the top and is in good condition for its age and use.  The wooden panel on the back pivots on a nail, and would've been used as a back piece when pouring in the maple sugar.  This is a super unique sugar mold and is unlike any other mold in the collection.  This mold was purchased from an antiques dealer from Missouri.
These are two beautiful old sugar molds and would be great additions to any collection or used for display in a country kitchen.  I ship to the United States and Canada.  If shipping to Canada I will only provide an accurate description of the package contents.  There is no reserve on this auction and a very modest starting bid.  Good Luck!!!
